A video system created to make Toastmasters clubs in Lisbon and Setúbal feel more accessible, human and easy to understand – replacing abstract institutional communication with real members, real sessions and simple testimonials.
The Challenge
Toastmasters is a strong international brand, but for many people it can feel formal, old-fashioned or intimidating from the outside. Public speaking, networking and self-development already create resistance – so the communication had to make the experience feel safer and easier to approach.
- Demystify what actually happens inside a Toastmasters session
- Make public speaking feel less scary and more human
- Show real members instead of relying on institutional explanations
- Create useful content for multiple clubs across Lisbon and Setúbal
The Approach
The strategy was simple: instead of explaining Toastmasters from the outside, show it from the inside. Each club video combined real session footage with a short testimonial from a member selected by the club.
- Real members sharing why they joined and what they gained
- Live session footage showing the room, format and atmosphere
- Short, clear videos built around trust and familiarity
- Local club stories instead of one generic institutional video

Why This Worked
Removing fear
People do not usually avoid Toastmasters because they dislike the idea. They avoid it because they are unsure what to expect. The videos reduced that uncertainty by showing normal people speaking, listening, laughing and improving together.
Turning an old brand into a human experience
The content made Toastmasters feel less institutional and more approachable. Instead of presenting it as a formal self-development structure, the videos framed it as a safe room where people can practise, connect and grow.
Production Execution
Solo production
I filmed and edited around 20 videos across different clubs, working solo in live environments. Each shoot required quick setup, interview direction, session coverage and teardown without disrupting the normal club meeting.
Adapted to each room
Every club had a different location, lighting setup, room layout and rhythm. The challenge was to keep the format consistent while adapting fast enough to capture authentic moments from each session.

Impact
The project created a large library of high-quality video assets for Toastmasters clubs in Lisbon and Setúbal. The videos helped increase awareness, support recruitment and give the clubs reusable content that remained valuable for years across their social media channels.
- Around 20 club and special-format videos produced
- Consistent increase in visibility and interest across the clubs
- Reusable content library for social media and member recruitment
- Clearer public understanding of what Toastmasters actually feels like
